BIO

Originally from Cuba, William arrived in Canada in the early 90s with a PE degree and a National Championship title in Windsurfing. In 98 he discovered, during a Maui trip, his new passion: kiteboarding. He was one of the first to bring Kiteboarding to Canada.

In order to practice his new favourite sport in all conditions, William decided to take advantage of the cold snowy Canadian winters by Snowkiting.

William clearly stood out in this discipline by winning the WOLRD at 46 years of age! He has been crowned WORLD CHAMPION 2012 in snowkiting at the WISSA 2012 held in St-Ignace, Michigan, USA. William also won a silver medal at the Freestyle At’Traction 2012 (Saguenay- Coupe du Québec) and has been for five consecutive years (2007-2011) the Snowkite champion at the championship of « Coupe du Quebec/ Quebec Cup » in the snowboard category.

William made history at the WISSA 2008 by beating the snowkite skiers with a snowboard and obtaining a bronze medal, master class and thanks to William’s spectacular performances in 2008 and 2010 the snowboard category is now official at the WISSA.

Besides being really passionate about kiting, William is a real innovator and developer of his passion. Wanting to go faster and to be able to race with and against skis, William developed in 2010, after 2 years of prototypes and research, a 216cm race snowboard builded by Donek, the board « Designed by William Acosta.
